OUR STORY

Ray McQueen was assigned to a remote location off the Indian Ocean while serving in the United States Air Force in 1993. There, Ray had a vision of himself preaching to all races nationally and internationally. The Lord spoke to his heart to start a ministry in the Central Virginia area. Lynchburg, Virginia became the focal point which the Lord spoke to Ray to start the church. At Ray's last duty assignment, Andrews Air Force Base Maryland, God gave Ray and Sharon the name of the church (Family Life Church). God spoke to them, saying, "In thee shall all families of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 12:3)

On Saturday, July 26, 1997, Family Life Church began out of a citywide crusade in the Greenfield Apartments (presently known as James Crossing Apartments). That first Sunday 42 souls were saved at the Lynchburg Ramada Inn. While Pastors Ray and Sharon focused on reaching out to the community, they moved from the hotel to a storefront property on Twelfth Street in Lynchburg, Virginia. It was there that Family Life Church continued to grow and develop ministries for men, women and children. As the church continued to grow, the pastors took a leap of faith and moved from the storefront building on Twelfth Street to the Timbrook Square Shopping Center on Timberlake Road.  There, God began to speak to Pastor Ray about buying land to build a new facility for the growing congregation. In 2004, the church purchased 35 acres of land only minutes from the shopping center where worship services were held. In 2008, Family Life celebrated the grand opening of the new worship facility.

While Family Life Church has been in its new facility, the church has grown to more than 700 active members, and offers contemporary, biblical-driven worship services that are alive with energy and creativity.

In 2011, Family Life Church started a second location in Roanoke, Virginia, where services are held weekly.

Family Life Church has built a Community Center that offers facilities for our community such as a gymnasium, indoor playgrounds, meeting rooms, and a chapel to continue to expand the vision that God has given to our pastors.
